The Rochester Area Builders notified its members Thursday that someone who participated in its annual Golf Outing has tested positive for COVID-19.

The outing took place on Monday at Somerby Golf Club in Byron. The association was notified of the positive test on Wednesday afternoon.

RAB Executive Director John Eischen sent a letter to members to explain the situation.

“This individual passed their company COVID protocols including a temperature check that morning before reporting to the golf course. This individual did NOT attend the dinner afterward. If you attended the event, you may have been exposed to this individual,” he wrote. “We are providing this notice to ensure that everyone is aware of the situation and is able to take the measures you deem appropriate in light of the potential exposure.”

Olmsted County Public Health advised the association that people who were at the golf event should self-monitor for symptoms due to the possibility of “close contact” with the individual. Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of an infected person for a period of at least 15 minutes.

Here's the full message that Eischen sent out to members:

"Members, golf outing attendees and sponsors:

We were notified late yesterday afternoon that one of the individuals that attended the RAB Golf Outing has subsequently received a positive test for COVID-19. This individual passed their company COVID protocols including a temperature check that morning before reporting to the golf course. This individual did NOT attend the dinner afterward. If you attended the event, you may have been exposed to this individual. We are providing this notice to ensure that everyone is aware of the situation and is able to take the measures you deem appropriate in light of the potential exposure.

After consulting with Olmsted County Public Health ('OCPH') on this issue, they have provided some additional information for individuals that may have been exposed to COVID-19. OCPH recommends that attendees self-monitor for symptoms at this time due to the low likelihood of what they define as 'close contact.' Close contact is defined by OCPH as being within 6 feet of an infected individual for a period of at least 15 minutes. If you have any questions about the recommendation from OCPH please contact Jody with Olmsted County Public Health at (507) 517-0170.

We will continue to take all necessary precautions at RAB to ensure we are limiting the threat of exposure to our members, including teleconference meetings and the like. If we receive any additional information related to the issue noted above we will pass it along to you all. Thank you"
