AUSTIN -- CineMagic 7 Theatre in Austin will be closing its doors at the end of the day Sunday, Feb. 21, Odyssey Entertainment announced today.

The lease for the property matures at the end of February and Odyssey was hopeful an extension could be worked out to keep the theatre open. Odyssey was unable to come to a new agreement with the property owner, Hy-Vee, according to a news release.

The theatre industry has been hit particularly hard by two government shutdowns, patron fears of group settings and film studios delaying all major releases because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Austin has been a great community to do business in,” Odyssey Theatres President Steve Tripp said in the release. “We have incurred substantial losses there in the last year alone and just simply can not continue to do so.”

Anyone holding passes or gift cards can still be use them at CineMagic 7 this weekend. In the future, they can be used at CineMagic Hollywood 12 Theatres in Rochester.
