ROSELAND, N.J. — Payroll processor Automatic Data Processing Inc. said today it has promoted President and Chief Operating Officer Carlos A. Rodriguez to replace its retiring CEO Gary C. Butler.
Butler, 65, is leaving after 37 years with the company. Rodriguez, 47, has been with ADP since 1999 and has served as president and COO since May.
Rodriguez had previously served as president of national accounts services, international employer services and small- business operations.
The company said late last month that new clients from both core growth and acquisitions pushed its fiscal first-quarter profit up 9 percent. The world's largest payroll processor said revenue rose 13 percent to $2.52 billion.
