Heard on the Street: ABC appoints new leader

Ability Building Centerrecently underwent a transition in leadership when Steve Hillretired and Bruce Remmestepped forward to become the new executive director.

Greg Kauffman,president of ABC's board of directors, thanked Hill for his 36 years of service at Friday's community reception. Hill was hired in 1980 and had served as the organization's executive director since 2001. His last day of work was April 29.

ABC is an organization that serves Southeast Minnesota by providing rehabilitation opportunities and employment services to those with disabilities and other special needs.

"ABC is a great organization, with a great mission," Hill said. "It has been a wonderful experience to see and be a part of the many positive changes that have occurred in the lives of persons with disabilities over the past three decades. Hopefully retirement will afford me more time to devote to my family and maybe even a little more time for fly fishing."

Remme joined ABC in March after a 35-year career at IBM in Rochester. He'd served in a volunteer capacity since 1995 as board treasurer, vice president and president.

The St. Cloud State University alum earned his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He also serves on the board of directors at Think Mutual Bank.

"It is an honor to be chosen to lead this organization," Remme said. "I am committed to build off the legacy and success of the past 60 years, have some fun celebrating ABC's 60th anniversary in 2016, and position ABC for continued success." — Brett Boese
