Heard on the Street: Gander Mountain gives out trigger locks

To encourage firearm safety, outdoors and hunting retailer Gander Mountainwill be giving away 50,000 trigger locks this weekend at its all of its 133 U.S. stores, including its Rochester location.

All customers need to do is sign a pledge to secure their guns as part of St. Paul-based Gander Mountain's "With Rights Comes Responsibility" national initiative.

The trigger guard giveaway starts today and will run through Sunday. Each customer who signs the pledge will be eligible for one lock. The locks are usable on any firearm.

Gander's Rochester store is located in the Northwest Plazashopping complex at 3470 55th St. N.W. That's the former Econofoodslocation, which Gander took over in 2007.

"We are committed to continuing to raise awareness that responsible firearms ownership is a necessity, not an option. It's everyone's responsibility to safeguard against firearms getting into the hands of the underage, untrained and unauthorized," said Steve Uline, executive vice president of marketing for Gander Mountain. "This weekend, we're encouraging firearms owners and people who may have a family member or friend who owns a firearm to visit a Gander Mountain store, sign the pledge and pick up a free trigger lock. Locking 50,000 firearms and stimulating ongoing conversation about responsible ownership is our goal this weekend."
