Rochester native and former Mayo executive Jeff Korsmo is returning to Minnesota.

The chief executive officer of Via Christi Health in Wichita, Kansas, will leave next month for a leadership position at Duluth-based Essentia Health, according to the Wichita Eagle.

Before coming to Via Christi in 2011, Korsmo served in a variety of positions in 28 years at Mayo Clinic, including chief administrative officer in Rochester and executive director of the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center.

A press release said Korsmo looks forward to returning to his home to be closer to family and friends.

"It has been a pleasure to work with Jeff for the past several years," Patricia Maryland, president of Ascension Health, said in the release. "His commitment and dedication to providing compassionate, personalized care to individuals across Kansas, especially people living in poverty and those most vulnerable, has contributed to the success of our healthcare ministry in Kansas."
