A new flavor is coming soon to South Broadway.
Nazario and Michelle Porrasplan to open Avocado's Mexican & American Grillat 1647 S. Broadway, the former home of the Mysore Cafe Indian restaurant, yet this month. They expect to have about 15 people on staff.
The Porrases, who own Mango's Mexican & American Grillin Winona, had looked at a few locations in Rochester, "then this spot became available and everything fell into place," Michelle says.
Despite the similar name, there's no association with the former Avocados World Bistro, which was in the space now occupied by Zzest Market and Cafe in Rochester from 2007 to 2008.
The Mysore building has quite an international cuisine history. It was a Cambodian restaurant called Phnom Pehn from 2004 to 2007, then the India Curry House.

Some local Mexican food fans might recognize Nazario Porras' name. Before opening Mango's in Winona, he managed the 19th Street location of Dos Amigos in Rochester. Michelle says the popularity of their Winona restaurant with Rochester diners is the main reason they decided to open a restaurant here. -- Jeff Kiger
