Heard on the Street: Rochester rated highly among growing cities

Rochester is among the top 20 fastest growing cities in the United States, according to a new analysis.

Nerdwallet rates Rochester as the No. 16 fastest growing economy in the country, based on growth in working-age population, income and airport passenger traffic.

"As the economy picks up, many people are looking around for booming cities with growing employment and thriving industry," Nerdwallet said. "What are the top growing cities in the U.S.? We crunched the numbers to find the top cities on the rise."

The top three cities were Gainesville, Fla.; Fargo, N.D.; and Brownsville, Texas.

In Rochester, the population growth was 1.9 percent increase in population on average from 2007 to 2012, a 1.9 percent increase in median income from 2007 to 2012 and a 4.5 percent drop in airport passenger growth in that time. Its overall rating was 44.1 percent.
