Waste Management Inc. bought the Kasson-based garbage hauler Alli Rolloff Inc. earlier this month, adding more than 3,000 customers and five trucks, it announced in a news release.
Alli operates in Pine Island, Byron, Kasson, Mantorville, Dodge Center, Claremont, West Concord and Hayfield.
Waste Management said it hopes to retain as many ARI employees as possible.
The company said the purchase fits with its operations at the Rochester district. It also sees growth opportunity with increasing economic development in southeast Minnesota.
"We are looking forward to serving our new customers in southeast Minnesota and building on our existing collection operations in the area," said Pete VanDussen, area director of operations for Waste Management. "This acquisition makes perfect sense for Waste Management and comes at a time when we are growing our business to meet the needs of the community."

According to the Star Herald newspaper, Troy Andrist, owner of Alli, said he didn't set out to sell the business, but he decided now was the time.
A solid waste tax increase in Olmsted County made it harder for him to stay competitive on the commercial side of his business, he said.
Andrist kept a few employees to help with his mulch business, he said. — Mike Klein
