Heard on the Street: Welch Village job fair is this week

With the temperature dropping, ski season isn't far off.

Welch Village ski and snowboard area in Welch is getting ready by holding a job fair from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and Thursday on the second floor of its main chalet. "We do most, if not all, of our hiring at this event," Welch said in an email sent out to members.

Full- and part-time openings are available, including cooks, cashiers, custodians, lift operators, rental chop clerks, terrain park crew, ticketing and sales and ski and snowboard instructors.

Those interested in being a ski or snowboard instructor should attend hiring clinics from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8.Bring your ski or riding gear, and a lift ticket for the day will be provided.

Finally, Welch Village is holding its ski swap and open house from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. People with equipment they'd like to sell there can drop it off from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. There is a $3 charge per item and a 20 percent commission of sales. — Mike Klein
