KASSON — Will Kasson be the latest town to open a Hy-Vee store?

Talk began swirling Friday that Hy-Vee Inc. might open a store in Kasson with anonymous reports on Craiglist that Erdman's Country Market in Kasson had sold to the West Des Moines, Iowa, grocery chain. While a spokesman at Erdman's delivered a firm "No comment" on the rumors, a Hy-Vee spokeswoman said the rumors have some merit.

"We are exploring Kasson for another retail location; however, the transaction is pending at this time," said Christina Gayman, director of public relations for Hy-Vee's corporate offices.

She said the company might have more news in August.

There are four Hy-Vee grocery stores in Rochester. Austin has a Hy-Vee grocery store and Hy-Vee gas station, and Winona is home to a Hy-Vee grocery store. Overall, Hy-Vee operates 265 stores in eight Midwestern states, according to the company's website.
