Knutson Construction has been awarded the contract to build the Workforce Center at Heintz Center on the University Center Rochester campus for $6.3 million.
Officials at Rochester Community and Technical College accepted the bid and announced the plan on Tuesday.
The project calls for the construction of a 22,800 gross square foot addition at the Heintz Center to house Rochester Workforce Center. The project includes a new east building entrance, administrative offices and a connection to the Olmsted County Waste-to-Energy district steam system improving energy efficiency by utilizing a renewal energy resource, according to RCTC officials.
Organizers say the project locates the programs and service delivery of the Workforce Center and RCTC under one roof to utilize training and education.
The project is being paid for through $8.7 million in state dollars that were approved earlier this year by the Minnesota Legislature..
