Local wind power project moves forward

AUSTIN — The proposed 200-megawatt Pleasant Valley wind project in northern Mower County and southern Dodge County still needs more permits before it can build the turbines or a line to bring power from the Sargeant area to a substation several miles away.

The Mower County Board in late January unanimously approved the line's environmental assessment, meaning the study didn't find any major adverse environmental impacts from the project, said County Coordinator Craig Oscarson.

RES America Developments Inc. still needs a conditional-use permit from the county for the lines, he said.

The company needs to get permits from the state to build the actual towers, he said.
