The 5 p.m. slot on the Peace Plaza stage will be filled up with old-soul folk music courtesy of The Copoetics.
The band, from Sioux Falls, S.D., possesses a worldly sound, as evidenced by "Spirit Trail," the opening cut on the their latest album, "The Way of the Spirit Trail." The song begins with lush sitar strums and ethereal vocals, then coalesces into a more recognizable, western-style folk tune. Over on the First Avenue stage, The Voice That Lied, a bluesy rock act from Rochester, will bring their rawkus methods to the stage at 5 p.m. The band's Reverbnation page, reverbnation.com/thevoicethatlied , features a couple of instrumental songs that show off the band's tight instrumental interplay, while their biography promises sets balanced between original material and covers like "Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty and "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix.
At 7 p.m., Dick Kimmel & Company( dickkimmel.com ) will bring their New Ulm-sourced bluegrass to the Peace Plaza stage, while the First Avenue stage will host the strange waves of Heatbox, a loopy, funky, beat-boxing crew from the Twin Cities. The band's strange sound is better experienced than it is explained, and thankfully, their Reverbnation page, reverbnation.com/heatbox , features enough material to get a good idea of what's to come.
