A Med City church has a new Northwest Rochester home, with a child care center as a roommate, after buying a 63-year-old building for $1.55 million.

Redemption City Church on July 19 purchased a complex at 1835 19th St. NW, where Bethany United Methodist Church was once based. The church made a down payment of $192,500 at the time of the purchase.

The church, which previously met at Rochester’s Best Western Hotel, is now hosting Sunday services in the 2,783-square-foot building.

Creative Stars Academy child care also continues to operate in part of the center, where it opened in 2019.

The former Bethany Nursery School, which operated in Rochester for 50 years, closed there in 2017.

A group of local investors, under the name A.C.S. Church & Daycare LLC, led by Brad Clemens, purchased the property for $1.05 million in late 2018, and renovated it.

Olmsted County estimated the total market value of the property at $876,000 for 2021-22.
