LAKE CITY — Renovations of the nursing home at Lake City Medical Center-Mayo Health System will begin on May 23.
The renovations are the first of five projects the center is undertaking to improve the quality of life for residents.
When the renovations are completed in early August, the nursing home will have a transformed lobby with a fireside lounge and cafe, expanded activity space, modernized beauty shop and a new outdoor patio.
Because the main lobby will be renovated, the nursing home entrance and parking lot will be closed off during the construction. Visitors will be directed to park in the main clinic/hospital parking lot and use a temporary entrance that will be located by the delivery door.
"These renovations have been a priority for us for our medical center for some time, and we’re excited to begin," says Cheri Kramer, chief administrative officer of Lake City Medical Center.

Donations generated nearly half of the estimated $875,000 cost for Project One.
Fundraising efforts now focus on the second project, improving the dining experience, which has an estimated $900,000 price tag.
Parts three and four focus on the common areas in the corridors connected to residents’ rooms, and part five focuses on the main hallway.
