A popular bagel shop is the latest Med City eatery to close its doors due to the pandemic.
Bruegger’s Bagels at 102 Elton Hills Dr. NW posted a large message in its windows Monday morning – “Permanently closed.”
The downtown location of Bruegger’s remains open. It is located in the subway of the US Bank building.
The Elton Hills location previously did much of the bagel baking and delivered to the downtown shop. It’s unclear whether that will continue with the Elton Hills dining room being closed.
In recent years, Bruegger's has faced more local competition. Einstein Bagels and Caribou Coffee opened in 2016 in the very nearby River Center Plaza shopping center.
That beefed up competition with a Starbucks in the pipeline next to the River Center Plaza may have contributed to the closure in addition to the pandemic.
While closures seem to be happening almost daily, the Med City’s downtown has a big opening on the menu for this coming holiday weekend.
