It looks like a regional player in the restaurant industry has something new on tap for the Med City.
Miracle Mile Shopping Center, Rochester’s oldest mall, has been renovating and upgrading the retail complex on 17th Avenue Northwest at the Second Street and US 52 connection.
Since May, part of the work has involved a $1.3 million project to build out space for something listed on permits under the generic placeholder name “ABC Restaurant.”
Messages passed on to the unknown future tenant by Kahler Hospitality Group's Chief Financial Officer Leslie Hohmann, who manages the shopping center for developer Javon Bea, did not receive any response.
While the project was consistently listed as “ABC Restaurant” on almost all of the building permits, one document from Olmsted County Public Health describes it as “Boulder Tap House - ABC Restaurant.”
Boulder Tap House is a popular chain owned by the Waite Park-based Letnes Restaurant Group. There are six in Minnesota and three in Iowa.
Boulder Tap House’s website backs that up by listing a Rochester location as “Coming Soon” at 28 17th Ave. NW, which is the former address of SJ Jewelers. SJ recently moved to a new spot in the center.
The website describes Boulder Tap House as "Craft Burgers. Craft Beer. And an atmosphere the whole family will love."
This new competitor in the craft beer and pub food niche joins a slew of local players, including The Tap House, Tap House West End, Newt’s, The Half-Barrel, Dooley’s, Rooster's and Nellie’s On Third.
No matter how you slice it, something is cooking at Miracle Mile.
