A new name in coffee wants to say “Aloha” and join the corral of caffeine competitors in the Med City.
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, which is unexpectedly based in Colorado, has signed up a franchisee to open a Rochester location.
The announcement came as part of a list of 10 newly signed franchisees that was rolled out on Wednesday.
“TTB Holdings, LLC, is beginning construction on its first location in Rochester, Minn. Two additional locations are planned,” according to the release.
State incorporation documents for TTB Holdings list Brian E. Zmolek as the company’s “registered agent.”
Bad Ass, which did start on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1989, serves premium Hawaiian coffee plus international coffees and teas. They also make sandwiches on King's Hawaiian sweet bread.
It has 24 U.S, locations and two shops in Japan. This will be the first Bad Ass Coffee in Minnesota.
The company website lists the Rochester shop as “coming soon” at Suite 100 of the smaller building in the Eastwood Plaza at 1529 Highway 14 East. That would put it next to the south Rochester’s UPS Store.
The new Hawaiian coffee shop will face some very nearby competition when it opens.
In February, Katrina and Scott Pulham launched the popular Due North Coffee Co. trailer, very nearby at 1607 Highway 14 East. It stands in front of their other Rochester business, the Air Insanity trampoline center.
Meanwhile, Caribou Coffee is building a small Caribou Cabin in the parking lot of Cub Foods to offer drive-thru and walk-up service.
