Retail report: Red Wing could be target for new retail businesses

RED WING — A presentation scheduled for Wednesday morning is expected to show Red Wing is a prime location for new retail businesses.

Bruce Schwartau, an Extension Educator in Community Economics from the University of Minnesota, will talk about a recent Retail Trade Analysis Report and explain how it relates to the small city located along the Mississippi River. Essentially, sales tax reports from the last several years are studied in order to reveal the "pull factor" for a given area. Red Wing is one of about 40 Minnesota cities  analyzed by Schwartau.

Retail stores in Red Wing have been pulling the equivalent of an additional 6,800 people over its population of about 16,000, according to information from Patty Brown, the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce president.

The presentation will be held at the public library in Red Wing from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
