A longtime Med City jewelry shop recently made a small move into an upgraded storefront more than double the size of the old space.
SJ Jewelers shifted its operations about 30 feet north of its longtime spot in Rochester’s Miracle Mile Shopping Center to make way for the addition of a new restaurant, Boulder Tap House. The jewelry store went from 878 square feet of space to 2,100 square feet.
“It’s bigger and better. It’s a really modern look. It’s a good look for us,” said owner Scott Johnson, who opened the store in 1985.
Since the new store is so close to the old location, SJ Jewelers was able to keep its old address of 28 17th Ave. NW.
With the move, Johnson expanded his team by two to a total of five.
The additional space means the store has room for more display counters with more product lines of fashion and bridal jewelry. SJ is also well known locally for jewelry and watch repair as well as its custom jewelry work.
“Repair work is the backbone of our business,” he said.
