Lee Green is at the helm of operations for Greenhouse Grafix, a business that takes its name from its owner and its location -- Green's house.
Green holds a bachelor's degree from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, where he studied graphic design. He worked as art director at the Professional Skaters Association in Rochester for 15 years.
As a graphic designer, Green has always had an eye for detail. He likes things to look good -- he says he'd design the world, if he could. Around him, Green saw many different published products that could use his artistic touch. There was a need and an opportunity for him, he felt, in Rochester.
After assessing the freelance projects he’d worked on over the past 20 years, Lee realized he could start his own graphic design business. So, in 2018, that’s exactly what he did. His is the first and only Black-owned graphic design business in Rochester.
He built his business on networking -- he doesn't need to advertise, because word of mouth travels fast. In particular, Green receives a lot of referrals from BCS, a local computer support business.
Green designed two picture murals that are worth seeing up close. One can be seen at Hope Fuse, a youth center in southeast Rochester. The second mural can be seen at the Barbershop & Social Services.
Green says business has been going so well, he'll soon hire an administrative assistant -- his daughter.
Green specializes in "branding." Some of the other services Greenhouse Grafix offers are social media design, content writing, google ads, SEO (search engine optimization) and brochures. Although Green works from home, he hosts his client meetings at the BCS office. It’s welcoming and offers a relaxed atmosphere. There, I had the pleasure of seeing a calendar Green designed featuring minority leaders in Rochester.
Green prides himself on being able to produce a finished product that represents a client’s vision for their brand. He has received awards for his logo designs. The Greenhouse Grafix tagline -- design, inspire, believe -- is an expression of Green's passion.
