Bill Von Bank has joined Experience Rochester and Mayo Civic Center as vice president of marketing and communications.
Prior to the new position, Von Bank was director of marketing and communication for the Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency.
He also served on the five-member board that was established to oversee Mayo Civic Center and convention and visitor bureau operations after the Rochester City Council opted to transition oversight of the city building to a new nonprofit entity.
Joe Ward, president of Experience Rochester and Mayo Civic Center, said he’s glad to have Von Bank transition to a staff role.
“He’s a highly respected professional whose skills and insight will be incredibly valuable as we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic and work to build a solid destination marketing foundation to support the growth of the City of Rochester and the Mayo Civic Center,” he said in a statement.
Von Bank previously directed international marketing for Explore Minnesota, the state’s tourism promotion agency. He was also director of marketing for two of Minnesota’s high-profile attractions: Valleyfair Amusement Park and Minnesota Zoo.
Von Bank was recently recognized by Twin Cities Business magazine as A Notable Executive in Marketing.
Committed to hunger relief, Von Bank created Bill the Pie Guy in 2020, a cottage food business with the profits from selling his pies during outdoor community events donated to local food shelves.
