For the first time in 92 years, the Med City’s Chevrolet Cadillac dealership has a new name on its sign.
On Monday, Rob Gregory of Rochester Motor Cars closed on his purchase of Clements Chevrolet Cadillac at 1000 12th St SW, in front of the Apache Mall. He also owns Rochester Toyota, Rochester Ford and Rochester Mazda.
Financial details of the deal were not released.
New signs went up right away, changing the name to Rochester Chevrolet.
“We hope to continue to build on their reputation of great customer service by continuing to develop transparency in how we do business,” said Gregory, sitting in the showroom.
He purchased the longtime dealership from Jack Remick, Dave Remick and John Wade.
Gregory said he wanted to thank the three former owners for helping with a smooth transition.
“It was a pleasure,” he said.
The dealership’s team of about 60 employees will remain in place under the new owner. Rochester Motor Car’s Travis Hunzeker is the new director of operations for the dealership.
For Gregory, this latest acquisition brings him full circle in his automotive career..
“I started out 33 years ago selling Chevrolets. I truly feel I’ve got to pinch myself that I get to finish my career doing the same thing,” he said.
Longtime customers of the dealership will not see a lot of changes, though Gregory is bringing some features from his other car sales lots.
“We’ll be adding our seven-day money back guarantee and our exclusive 30-day exchange program to ensure customers can never buy a bad car,” he said.
The Remicks acquired the dealership in 2009, when they purchased it for $7 million from Jerry Bridwell and F.B. Clements & Co.
John Wade later joined the ownership group with the Remicks plus Dan and Todd Penz in 2014. He has served as the managing partner and was the primary face of the dealership.
In 2017, the Penzes split off from the ownership group. They purchased the Subaru brand from Clements and a new south Rochester dealership that was built in 2016.
