A new owner is taking the wheel of a popular touring vehicle.
Chamberlain Concierge and Lifestyle Management, led by owner and president Laura Elwood, acquired the Rochester Trolley and Tour Co. in late September.
Elwood purchased the business from Dan Butterfass, who launched it in 2006 and expanded into trolleys in 2011.
The Rochester Trolley is known for its guided tours of Rochester and the region. Tours such as the Haunted Tour, Winery Tour and History Tour will continue under the new ownership.
Chamberlain is aiming to grow the private event and wedding part of the business as well as add tours of the area.
The tour company fits well with Chamberlain Concierge, which provides travel services with a fleet of sedans, SUVs and shuttles.
“Transportation is essential, and as this pandemic continues, we are continuing to provide safe, reliable transportation, whatever people’s needs are,” Elwood said.
Her interest in the trolley company started before the pandemic took hold.
“Trolleys are timeless, and this company has earned its status as a Rochester gem. A lot of Rochester storytelling happens through this service,” she wrote. “Just look at the haunted tour; being able to bring that kind of immersive experience to gatherings like weddings is the way I want to move Chamberlain.”
Chamberlain has a team of 12, which Elwood hopes to increase as the trolley tours grow.
