Beginning in February, area residents who want to escape to the warmer temperatures of Arizona and Florida will find direct flights from Rochester International Airport.

Sun Country announced Tuesday that it will begin new, nonstop service from Rochester to Fort Myers, Fla., on Feb. 3, and Phoenix, Ariz., on Feb. 4.

The announcement was part of a larger expansion announced by the airline. Nine new airports and 18 new nonstop routes have been added to its growing network, Sun Country said.

“We know folks are excited to resume traveling, and we’re happy to be able to offer them the opportunity to travel to these destinations with us,” said Sun Country Airlines Chief Revenue Officer Grant Whitney in a news release. “Rochester-area residents are familiar with our brand of convenient, affordable travel, and these new routes will make it even easier for them to get away on the warm, sunny vacations they’ve been dreaming about.”

Sun Country will offer the only nonstop flights from Rochester to either Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) or Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).

“We are grateful for Sun Country’s commitment to bring new nonstop routes to Rochester International Airport,” said Rochester airport's Executive Director John Reed. “Travelers from southeastern Minnesota, northern Iowa and western Wisconsin can all enjoy easy access to two amazing new vacation destinations from RST. We know our region will be thrilled to use these new options.”
