In the wake of complaints by frustrated employees, Mayo Clinic’s official explanation is that the raises are calculated solely in comparison to the market. The annual salary adjustment is based on a review of external market factors, the clinic says.

Mayo Clinic employees were notified of an annual salary increase of 2% for 2022 with a 2.75 multiplier this week. That is the same as Mayo Clinic provided in pre-pandemic 2020. Other organizations are offering raises of more than 3% because of staff shortages and inflations, according to a business survey.

“While final numbers are still not available, nearly 99% of staff across all Mayo Clinic locations have complied with the required vaccination program, meaning they have been vaccinated or have received medical or religious exemptions,” Mayo Clinic spokesperson Kelley Luckstein said in a statement. “This means that approximately 1% of staff across all locations will be released from employment as a result of the required vaccination program."
Mayo Clinic is still vaccinating employees against COVID-19 on the deadline to get the shot, be exempted for religious reasons or be "released from employment."
