- A proclamation by Gov. Edward Thye has designated Aug. 17 as “Purple Heart Day,” where flowers will be sold to help deserving veterans and their families.
- Mothers and fathers should ensure that Junior’s kite is not equipped with a wire cord. Such a kite, if the wire comes in contact with a power line, may result in a fatal electrical current being carried to the boy or girl on the ground.

- Minnesota Sen. James Carley, of Plainview, known as an organizer and campaigner, has been named chairman of the executive committee of the Democratic state central committee and will oversee publicity for the party.
- Mrs. H. Witherstine, president of the Rochester School Board and actively involved in the community and educational matters in her city and state, has sailed on the SS Patria from New York to Christiania, Norway, to represent Minnesota in an International Council of Women.
