Do you know a hero?
Soon, you'll have a chance to publicly honor them for their service as part of the Rochester Field of Flags.
A fundraiser for the Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation of Southeast Minnesota aims to honor members of the military, first responders, and heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic, including educators, medical and public safety personnel, truck drivers, childcare professionals and convenience store employees.
"No matter their profession, people can honor someone special in their life," a news release from the foundation reads.
The deadline to purchase flags is June 18 and can be done online at www.LawEnforcementMemorial.org/donate.html or by mail with a check in the mail. Those paying by check should include the name of the person(s) they are honoring. It can be mailed to the Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation of Southeast Minnesota at 101 Fourth St. SE, Rochester, MN 55904.
The flags will be placed June 21-26, during Rochesterfest, at Soldiers Memorial Field Park.
“The last 15 months taught us how important so many different professions are," Kevin Torgerson, Olmsted County Sheriff and President of the Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation of Southeast Minnesota, said in a news release. "A huge amount of community members stepped up during the pandemic and worked extremely hard. Help us celebrate them!”
Those interesting in purchasing a flag can honor one person or 100, and prices range from $25 to $2,500.
