1995 – 25 years ago

St. Charles’ Dan King and Pine Island’s Chad Schroeder were leaders on the Winona State baseball team. King hit .304 and Schroeder hit .336 and was third on the team with 23 RBI.

The law office of Tina Liebling opened recently. A Minneapolis native, Liebling previously worked as a public defender in the Chicago court system. In her Rochester practice, she will focus on criminal defense and estate planning.

1970 – 50 years ago

Joan Dunn, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Merle Dunn of Rochester, has been named as the 1970 recipient of the Beta Kappa chapter recruitment award from Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an international society for women in education. Joan is currently majoring in elementary education at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

1945 – 75 years ago

Memorial services will be conducted at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota this Sunday in memory of all those who have given their lives for their country. Blessing of the cemetery will follow the service.

At the customary ceremony today, 36 Rochester Senior High School students were formally inducted into the Rochester chapter of the National Honor Society in Central auditorium.

1920 – 100 years ago

A tornado struck at 3 p.m. about 5 miles south of Rochester, wrecking a silo, uprooting trees, killing some livestock and destroying numerous farm buildings.

Numerous men and women were jailed today following a raid on a Stewart cabaret. Twenty gallons of whiskey were taken.

The Eyota senior class play, “And Home Came Ted,” was presented at the Woodman Hall to a large audience. The hall was much too small to accommodate all who wished to attend.
