The nation marches under banners and flags in honor of the war dead today but some Memorial Day ceremonies may be disrupted by antiwar groups all rallying against the Indochina war.

Some 500 pastors and delegates will attend the fifth convention of the Minnesota Synod, Lutheran Church of American, at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

1945 – 75 years ago

Individual sales in the seventh war loan drive have reached $2.6 billion. The goal of the “mighty seventh” is $14 billion.

1920 – 100 years ago

It is expected that 15,000 men will march in the Memorial Day Parade in Minneapolis. Schools and churches will also take part in the observance.

It appears the motorized tractor is slowly replacing the horse in the Midwestern Corn Belt. Farmers continue to evaluate what the tractors can’t do and horses can.
