Zoilo Versalles, the Cuban shortstop who graceful glove work and clutch hitting led the Minnesota Twins to the World Series in 1965 and won him the Most Valuable Player award that year, has died at 55 years of age.

Gov. Edward J. Thye proclaimed Sunday as Lidice Day and asked Minnesota citizens to participate “in solemn observance of the day and to resolve that mankind’s fight for liberty, justice, and tolerance shall be perpetuated.” (Lidice Day was in remembrance of the massacre of its Czech villagers by the Nazis on June 10, 1942.)
