Technical Sgt. Lloyd E. Johnson, a pilot with the 10th Air Force in the Burma-India Theater, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Johnson’s wife and 6-month-old son, Lloyd David, reside in Rochester.
Plans to construct a municipal bandshell in Chatfield are being finalized by a 10-person committee. The shell, to be built on the north side of the city park, will accommodate the city’s two bands.

Members of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association held its 19th annual convention in Minneapolis. A speaker said that musical illiteracy is quite as deplorable as illiteracy in any branch of study.
Salary raises ranging from $5 to $15 per month were granted for a number of school clerks in Minnesota. The new schedule for elementary school clerks has a $60 per month minimum and $80 maximum.
A comprehensive examination for the position of postmaster in Rochester will be held to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of J. L. Hardwick.
