Wild turkey hunters in Minnesota had the biggest harvest in history during the recent spring wild turkey hunt. A record 2,062 wild turkeys were shot.

Six labor locals have approved contracts this week. The Winona local 1316 voted to accept increases of $2.35 an hour spread over two years. The final hourly rate will be $6.25 per hour.
The Mabel High School class of 1950 held its 20th reunion with 50 people attending. Roger Gaare was master of ceremonies.
1945 – 75 years ago
It has been reported that Thomas Watson, president of IBM Corp., made $425,549 in 1943. Fred MacMurray, the movie star, made $419,167 from Paramount Pictures.
Now showing at Rochester theaters is “National Velvet,” starring Mickey Rooney and Elizabeth Taylor.
Joe Flis hurled a four-hitter as Lake City beat Kenyon 11-2 in the Southeast Minnesota Baseball League.
1920 – 100 years ago
Meat prices are up at retail butcher shops. Round steak has gone from 30 cents a pound a month ago to 45 cents a pound at some places. Sirloin and porterhouse steaks also cost more as summer has spiked demand for steaks and chops.
The population of the continental United States is estimated at 105 million by the chief statistician of the Census Bureau. (In 2020 the population was estimated at 330.8 million).
