1995 – 25 years ago
A dinner and celebration honoring Chuck Hazama was held at the Mayo Civic Auditorium. Hazama will soon close out the longest consecutive run as mayor in Rochester’s history. More than 700 people attended the event.
Rochester’s Shjon Podein scored the game-winner as the Philadelphia Flyers downed Ottawa in National Hockey League play. Podein scored a shorthanded goal at 2:12 of the third period.
1970 – 50 years ago
The angry clamor of a bitter mid-term election campaign yielded today to the solemnity of decisions as Americans cast ballots that will choose a new Congress and shape their state governments.
Rochester voters braved a slushy snowfall and waited for 20 to 45 minutes throughout the morning to cast ballots.
Liane Rausch, John Marshall High School senior, received Student of the Month honors from the West Rochester Kiwanis Club. Liane ranks 6th in her senior class of 462 students.
1945 – 75 years ago
Wabasha High School celebrated its homecoming week with a 36-6 victory in high school football over Mazeppa. Bill Moe scored two touchdowns for the winners.
The new 1946 models of Chevrolet are now on display at the Clements Chevrolet Company.
Sonny Dunham and his Orchestra will be performing this evening at the Mayo Civic Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at Dieter’s Cigar Store.
1920 – 100 years ago
A fast train schedule is now in effect between the Twin Cities and Rochester via Dodge Center. Passengers for Rochester can board in Minneapolis and arrive in Rochester a few hours later.
Dr. Julius Stieglitz, professor of Chemistry at the University of Chicago, will speak at Mayo Clinic staff meetings and give a Mayo Foundation lecture.
