The annual Mayo Spartans Indoor Marching Band Concert will be held in the Mayo High School gym. This year’s program is “A Music and Marching Spectacular.”
Niles Jacobson, son of Leonard and Nancie Jacobson, was selected as the senior high school Student of the Month for October by the Grand Meadow faculty.
1970 – 50 years ago
A 20-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged by federal authorities in Minneapolis in connection with an alleged plot to hijack an airliner and take Minnesota Gov. Harold LeVander as a political hostage.
The Rochester Officials Association, in cooperation with the Post-Bulletin, KROC and Michael’s, will hold its annual southeastern Minnesota coaches get-together at North Hall in the Mayo Civic Auditorium. Dave Sperling, secretary of the association, says about 150 area coaches and athletic directors are expected to attend.
1945 – 75 years ago
Radio amateurs or “hams” were back on the air for the first time since Pearl Harbor.
The undefeated football team of Chatfield High School placed four players on the District One conference all-star team. They are Benton Wimmer, Keith Gordon, Robert Glover, and Donald Judd.
1920 – 100 years ago
Across the country and Minnesota, chapters of Disabled War Veterans of the World War are being formed to help those who returned from the war badly injured.
Small boys and some not so small were skating and sliding on the Mill Pond and the Zumbro River. The ice is as smooth as can be, and the winter sports are being enjoyed to the fullest.
