  • Despite concerns regarding decency and morality, the rock musical “Hair” will open at the St. Paul Civic Center on Feb. 23. On the St. Paul City Council, one opponent called the show “a wholesale assault on our society.”
  • The State High School Hockey Tournament will be held at the Metropolitan Sports Center. Joe Boyle and Jack Horner will call the games on WTCN-TV. Lou Nanne will host a Blue Line Show before each game.

  • The Legion of Merit, the fourth-highest war department honor, has been awarded to Dr. Joseph Berkson, head of the Mayo Clinic statistical department.
  • Members of the last class of U.S. cadet nurses to enter Saint Marys School of Nursing received their caps at capping ceremonies. There were 55 students in the class.

1921 — 100 years ago

  • Two disorderly conduct cases were brought before the justice court. The men were arrested after staging a boxing match in a restaurant and continued their not-so-friendly match in the street. Both men were fined and told to leave town.
  • Approximately 250 fathers and sons sat down to the banquet of the Rochester YMCA given in conjunction with the father-and-son movement in that institution.
