Dennis Weitzenkamp — Dodge Center
A memorial service for Dennis Weitzenkamp will be held at 2 p.m. Friday Sept. 2, 2011, at Faith Lutheran Church in Dodge Center, with Pastor Justin Boeding officiating. Burial of his ashes will be at Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center.
The visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the church, and one hour prior to the service on Friday, also at the church.
Dennis Weitzenkamp, 86, of Dodge Center, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, following a lengthy illness.
Dennis was born Aug. 1, 1925, to John and Grace (Briggs) Weitzenkamp in West Point, Neb. He later moved to Minnesota where he met his wife of 63 years, Jean (Pettitt) Weitzenkamp. They were married on June 13, 1948. Dennis farmed for many years before operating his own home improvement business.
Dennis loved hunting, fishing, reading, bird watching, and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; children, Carol (Tom) Mahon of Rochester, Dennis (LuAnn) Weitzenkamp of Plainfield, Iowa, Donna Ellison of Waverly, Iowa, Ruth (Jeff) Wendler of Dodge Center, Julie (Scott) French of Wasioja, David (Tonia) Weitzenkamp of West Concord; 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Marilyn) Weitzenkamp of Owatonna; sister, Judy Schnell of Kennewick, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters; one son, Jon; and two granddaughters, Jodi and Hieda.
