Memorial services for Denny Smith with be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at the Racine United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glenn Holland officiating. Burial will take place in the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Denny Smith, 64, of Spring Valley, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where he had resided for a short time.
Dennis Gerald "Denny" Smith was born Oct. 2, 1947, in Wykoff, to Gerald and Virginia (Schmidt) Smith. He attended school through the 8th grade and was united in marriage to Evelyn P. Gehrking of Spring Valley, and they were later divorced. They had one child, Dawn. He later married Susan Aarsvold, and they later divorced. They had one child, Dallas. Denny was an auto mechanic at Peterson Motors in Spring Valley. He later worked construction for Doyle Conner Co. of Rochester. Denny plowed snow for Fillmore County and also worked for Spring Valley Overhead Doors.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, music and dancing, bowling and being outside. He had a love of animals and enjoyed playing tricks and scaring people. He also enjoyed telling stories with friends and watching movies.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Bryan) Vrieze of Racine, and his son, Dallas (Tiffany Lee) Smith of Spring Valley; grandchildren, Alyssa Vrieze, Alysha (Edward) Bleifus, Nicole Vrieze, Kimberly Vrieze and Carson Smith; and great-grandchildren, Marshall and Caleb Bleifus. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Smith of Chatfield; sisters, Ruth (Wes) Ferris of Seattle, Wash., Linda (Allen) Comstock of Wykoff and Sherry (Kevin) Horseman of Utica; brothers, Jimmy (Barb) Smith of Spring Valley and Danny Smith of Wykoff; also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald, and brother, Curtis.
