ROCHESTER — The Funeral Mass for Eugene W. Funk will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa, with Father Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Clements Cemetery in Hammond.
Mr. Funk, 91, of Rochester, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 9, 2011, at Saint Marys Hospital.
Eugene Windom Funk was born on Sept. 23, 1919, in Osmond, Neb., to Samuel and Minnie (Brugeman) Funk. He attended school in Montana, graduating from Wolf Point High School. He enlisted in the Army National Guard, Co. 163 Inf. 4th Division, at Wolf Point, Mont., in 1942. He went to Australia for six months of Jungle Training then served 2 1/2 years at New Guinea, surviving three battles at Bunn, Sandracla, and Hollandia. He received the Combat Badge, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medals.
Eugene returned in 1945 and worked for Great Northern Railroad in Havre, Mont. He re-enlisted in the Air Force in Great Falls, Mont., in 1946 and served for three years. In 1949 he married Olivia Kohn in Great Falls. After returning from service in 1949, he worked for Anaconda Co. in Great Falls for 20 years. In 1968 they moved to Zumbro Falls, and he worked at Gould in Lake City for 17 years, retiring in 1984.
Eugene was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1087 in Great Falls. He enjoyed fishing and boating, had his private pilot license and enjoyed flying, sports, television, horseback riding, and loved animals.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Olivia Funk of Rochester; daughter, Connie (Myron) Lund of Zumbro Falls; son, James "Jim" (Peggy) Funk of Rochester; one sister, Betty (Frank) Bowman of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and one brother, Robert Funk of Grandbury, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Friends and family may visit from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
