Jerald Malwitz - Lake City

LAKE CITY — The funeral service for Jerald Malwitz will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Potsdam, with Pastor John Fuchs officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Mr. Malwitz, 62, of Lake City, died early Monday morning, Feb. 21, 2011, at the Lake City Medical Center-Mayo Health System Nursing Home.

Jerald Duane Malwitz was born Jan. 16, 1949, in Blue Earth to Wilbur and Alva (Mohr) Malwitz. In 1957 the family moved to rural Elgin. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester on June 9, 1967, then attended the Winona Area Technical School. On Nov. 5, 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Hector during the Vietnam War; he was discharged on March 20, 1975.

In 1973, Jerald was married and later divorced. Jerald worked at Johnson Radio in Waseca and Gould in Lake City. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Potsdam.

Jerald is survived by his father, Wilbur Malwitz of Elgin; two brothers, Eldon (Brenda) Malwitz and Glenn Malwitz, both of Elgin; and one sister, Dawn Prymas of Chanhassen; nieces, nephews, and great-niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alva, in May 2010.

Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church in Potsdam.
