John Anthony Wera, 78, of Mankato, died in his home Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011.
John served the community for many years and touched countless lives as a counselor, a priest, and a chef. He was active in his church, singing over the years in the choir, and loved cooking, sharing stories, and was an avid sports fan. He loved his family, God, and the Church, and truly taught us how to serve one another.
Preceded in death by his father, Julian Wera and mother, Dorothy (Fischer) Wera.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Longwell; his children, Katherine and Martin (Courtney Colwell); siblings, Tom (Sherri) Wera and Mary Ann (Jack) Remick; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass in Celebration of John's Life will be held Thursday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 632 South Broad Street in Mankato. A visitation at 10 a.m. will precede the liturgy.
