BERNE — You really know it’s summer when the Berne Wood-fired Pizza season is here.

The annual concert series opens June 6 and is presented every Wednesday evening (except for July 4) through Aug. 29 on the grounds of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne. Pizza, accompanied by live music, is available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. An opening band plays at 5 p.m., followed by the headliner at 6:30 p.m.

In the case of June 6, the Turkey River All-Stars open the evening, followed by LP & the 45s. It’s a night of Dixieland jazz (the Turkeys) and oldies hits (the 45s).

About 500 to 600 pizzas are sold each night, with seven varieties usually on the menu. Beverages and sides are also available, or you can bring your own.

Proceeds from the event, which is run entirely by volunteers, go to the church and to area non-profit organizations.
