Franciscan Spirituality Center offers inspiring programs
Best-selling author and research professor Brené Brown has inspired millions of people with her work on courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy.
Steve Spilde, a trained spiritual director on staff at the Franciscan Spirituality Center, has studied her work through The Daring Way training and certification program and is ready to help people learn how to "show up, be seen and live brave" through a series of programs and retreats at the FSC, 920 Market St., La Crosse, Wis.
Daring Companions, a nine-month series for personal growth and transformation using the research of Brown, will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evenings starting Sept. 16. Spilde will co-facilitate the sessions with FSC spiritual director Deb Hansen. Participants will learn through readings and videos and be invited to share their personal stories in a confidential setting. The goal is to experience empathy and mutual support as group members discuss the relevancy of the content to their lives, Spilde said. Cost is $180 for the entire program.
Daring Greatly: A Group Experience is a five-month group progress to explore and practice the work Brown. The program includes three weekend workshops and weekly email support. Gatherings are October 4-5, Dec. 6-7 and Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the spirituality center.
“Many of us want deeper and more intimate relationships, a life inspired by courage and freedom, and work motivated by meaning and purpose. Yet, we spend much of our effort trying to shield ourselves from the vulnerability these experiences require,” Spilde said.
Participants will be encouraged to overcome their fear of vulnerability and practice living with courage.
Cost is $300 for five-month program; overnight accommodations are available for an additional fee.
