1. Two tunesmiths
Tonight presents a tough choice for the Minneosta music fan. Jeremy Messersmith(with Dan Rodriguez and Sam Butterfass) at the Rochester Art Center? Or 61 Rumors(featuring Addison Israelson, like Butterfass a Rochester native) at Kathy's Pub? You might be able to hit both: Messersmith's show starts at 7 p.m.; $18-$38. 61 Rumors takes the stage at 10. Free.
2. Moving day
Don't sweat getting a good seat for the Whalan Stand Still Parade, 11 a.m. to noon Saturday in Whalan. The parade doesn't march down the street — you do, to check out the stationary floats, the marching (standing?) bands, the waving princesses. Live music precedes and follows the parade. You might be able to find a good piece of pie, too.
3. Park it
Saturday is National Kids to Parks Day, and Rochester will celebrate it with events at Soldiers Field Park. A mobile trailer will have games and other activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; youth golf coaches will be available with beginners equipment from 10 a.m. to noon; and there will be food and drink to enjoy. 4. Name is mud
This is still a thing? Yep — the Muddy Warrior Runopens its gates at 9 a.m. Saturday in rural northeast Rochester — it's on 48th Street Northeast, a mile or two east of Choose & Cut Fraser Firs, near the former Guest Houseproperty. Are we clear on the location? Here's the race: a 5K run over hill & dale, over obstacle & under barbed wire, through water & mud. There are competitive and recreational heats, and a kids muddy mile, too. Beer at the finish? Yep. More info: www.facebook.com/events/1637349403006179.
