Chamber society highlights Wagner, Liszt pieces

The Rochester Chamber Music Society will visit the uneasy friendship between composers Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Fifth Ave. S.W.

Pianist Daniel Rieppel will be the featured artist, along with soprano Carla Thelen Hanson and pianist Horacio Nuguid.

Rieppel studied piano in Munich before moving to Minnesota, where he a professor of music at Southwest State University. He is also a founding member of the Schubert Trio. Hanson, who has performed with opera companies from coast to coast, teaches at Rochester Community and Technical College. Nuguid is the founder and artistic director of the Rochester Chamber Music Society.

Selections will include Liszt's Sonata in B Minor and Wagner's Polonaise in D Major, as well as Wagner's "Souvenirs de Bayreuth," with both Rieppel and Nuguid at the piano. Hanson will sing Wagner's "Wesendock Lieder," accompanied by Nuguid.

Admission is free.
