While there is still room for improvement, gluten-free dining has become easier in Rochester. More restaurants are offering "GF" options and are willing to make adjustments for patrons who need a meal without wheat. Here are a few local places to check out.
*Disclaimer: Not all restaurants listed use separate grills, utensils, equipment, etc. for their gluten-free foods, so there is the potential risk for cross contamination. Always call ahead to check if the restaurant can make accommodations if you have Celiac disease or are extremely sensitive to gluten.
Pasta

Twigs is the only place in town with a dedicated gluten-free kitchen. They’ve replicated almost their entire menu for their Celiac customers, which is incredible given that their menu is so extensive they could fit into any category in this article. Try their spaghetti with Babcock pork, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella, or shrimp served with zucchini noodles or "zoodles." If you’ve got a hankering for barbecue, their ribs are good enough to make you lick your fingers clean.
7 1st Ave. SW
Victoria’s is very accommodating when it comes to gluten-free eating. They have gluten-free pastas available with all of their sauces; just let them know your needs and they will be willing to help out. They also have gluten-free bread to keep you satisfied until your meal comes.
Pizza
Pasquale’s Neighborhood Pizzeria
130 5th St. SW
Pasquale’s offers a 10-inch New York-style personal pizza that is gluten-free and the perfect size for one or two people. You can choose any toppings you want. Bonus: they offer Daiya cheese as well, which is a delicious dairy-free cheese alternative.

Broadway has an extensive "gluten friendly" menu. They serve everything from Italian cheese bread to sweet potato waffle fries and hoagies. The most important menu item is obviously the pizza. They have a 10-inch pizza crust with fresh ground mozzarella and the rest is up to you.

This restaurant offers a wonderful gluten-free and vegetarian menu. You’ll find all your Mexican favorites, such as fajitas, enchiladas, and tacos, along with guac and margs.

Fiesta Cafe is another great place to satisfy your taco craving. As a Rochester staple, they have established a loyal customer base. They offer corn tortillas for any of their dishes, making it a great place to eat for those who are gluten-free. With its relaxed environment, Fiesta is the perfect place to grab a margarita and chicken fajitas for a fun night out.
Burgers
3380 55th St. NW and 36 28th St. SE
Culvers is one of the few fast food joints that offers a gluten-free option. Using Udi’s buns, they make their famous butter burgers for even gluten-free foodies to chow down on.

Each of the four Newts locations has a gluten-free bun option available for all sandwiches and burgers, albeit at an extra charge. It’s totally worth it though – they’ve been voted Rochester’s best burger since 2003 by Rochester Magazine readers.
Fine Dining

Chester’s has adjusted their original menu to be free of all gluten ingredients, so you can eat right off the menu or add and eliminate ingredients as needed. My favorite item is the crust-free banana cream pie; you can’t beat it!
150 S Broadway
Known for their fantastic fish dishes, this restaurant has plenty to offer those who are gluten-free. Many of their sides include gluten-free grains and starches such as rice, quinoa, and potatoes. If you are looking for a nice night out on the town, you are sure to find anything to fit your tastes here.
