Program on composer set for Spring Grove

SPRING GROVE — Bonnie and Michael Jorgensen will revisit the life and music of Norwegian-American composer Theodora Cormontan in a presentation at 7 p.m. April 24 at the Spring Grove Cinema.

Cormontan, who lived from 1840 to 1922, was one of the first Norwegian women to have her classical compositions published and widely performed. She was also the first woman to own and operate her own music publishing business in Norway.

The Jorgensens, who presented a program on Cormontan last year, have added new research, and will focus on the years the composer offered piano, voice and organ lessons in towns in south central and southwestern Minnesota. The program will include numerous photographs.

A freewill offering will be accepted. A reception follows at the Heritage Center.
