See lumberjack-acrobats perform Oct. 14 in Winona

WINONA — Cirque Alfonse, a performing arts group from Quebec, will bring traditional music and acrobatics with a lumberjack sensibility to the Saint Mary's University Page Theatre in a show, "Timber!" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14.

From jigsaw juggling to high-wire stunts, the acrobats delight and enchant with feats of agility and strength. Like Cirque du Soleil with a healthy dose of flannel and pine, "Timber!" brings a festive look at the world of lumberjacks, loggers, and French-Canadian farm life.

Tickets for the Page Series performance are $30 for adults, $27 for seniors and students and are available at www.pagetheatre.org or at the box office, 507-457-1715, from noon to 6 p.m. daily.

In advance of the evening performance of "Timber!," learn more about Winona's rich logging history at the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson St.

In this Page in History event titled "Winona's Lumber Industry: From the Forest to the Mills," archivist Walt Bennick will share the archive's collection of lumber industry photos, from the work camps and log drives, to the mills that lined Winona's riverfront. Bennick will detail the lumbering days of Winona's beginnings beginning at noon Oct. 14. The event is free and open to the public.
