Thursdays on First: R&B vs. psychedelic — it's a wash

Buffalo Killers will be playing June 26 at Thursday's on First.

First came the rain. Now, a one-two punch of soul-cleansing music comes to Rochester's First Avenue stage at Thursdays on First & Third.

KnuFunk, featuring Lasonya Fleming, performs at 5 p.m., followed by Buffalo Killersat 7.

As its name implies, KnuFunk is a group bent on bringing old-school funk to the masses. This crew comes with a smashing rhythm section, blaring horns and a hearty serving of synthesized keys. It's a blend that should inspire some of the best dance moves you'll perform all summer. For a sample of their sound, head over to their website .

Buffalo Killers, a rock outfit straight out of Cincinnati, Ohio, is touring in support of their latest album, "Heavy Reverie," which came out earlier this year. They have appeared on "Last Call with Carson Daly" and even have a Daytrotter session under their belts.

Their far-out, psychedelic sound is tailor-made for hot summer nights. Their website features a handful of songs available to preview. "Golden Eagle" is a bubbling cauldron of reggae-tinged rhythms and reverb-laden guitars, while "San Martine Des Morelle" lets the group's '60s influence-flag fly free.
